Tribhuvan University, Institute of Science and Technology, announces Ph.D. admissions for the academic year 2082 (B.S.).It outlines eligibility criteria including academic qualifications and work experience requirements as well as application procedures and deadlines.

(1) Information regarding Ph.D. Admission for the Year 2082 B.S. (2025 A.D.)

A) Eligibility:

B) Application Form Details:

a) Submission:
Applicants seeking to pursue a Ph.D. under the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST), Tribhuvan University, must submit their Ph.D. enrollment application form along with a research proposal (proposal) to the respective Central Department from Ashar 15 to the end of Shrawan 2082 B.S. (i.e., approx. June 29 to mid-August 2025).
Applicants must also pay NPR 2,500 for the proposal defense to the concerned Central Department.

b) Proposal Defense:
The respective Central Department must conduct the Proposal Defense by Bhadra 20, 2082 B.S. (early September 2025) for those who have properly submitted their research proposals.

c) Entrance Exam Form Submission:
Applicants who successfully pass the proposal defense must submit the entrance exam form along with a revised proposal and all other required documents to the Dean’s Office of the IoST by the end of Bhadra 2082 B.S.
An entrance exam fee of NPR 3,000 must be deposited in Nepal Bank Limited, Kirtipur

C) Entrance Examination Details:

a) Entrance Exam Date:
Ashwin 29, 2082 B.S. (Wednesday) (approx. October 15, 2025)

b) Exam Time and Venue:
To be announced later.

c) Classes Start From:
Mangsir 1, 2082 B.S. (approx. November 17, 2025)


(2) Entrance Examination Pattern:

The entrance exam will consist of 100 objective questions, with the following distribution:

  • 70% from the concerned subject
  • 30% from Research Methodology related to the subject

(3) Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Enrollment:

A) The candidate must pass the entrance exam conducted by IoST, TU.

B) The candidate must have at least 3.0/4.0 CGPA or equivalent in their Master’s level (M.Sc. in the respective discipline or M.A. in Mathematics or Statistics) from TU or a university recognized by TU to qualify as a full-time Ph.D. candidate.
No work experience is required for full-time enrollment.

C) For non-full-time Ph.D. enrollment, work experience is required as follows:

  • If the candidate has 3.0/4.0 CGPA: 2 years of work experience required
  • If the candidate has 3.3/4.0 CGPA: 1 year of work experience required
  • If the candidate has 3.7/4.0 CGPA or passed with distinction: No work experience required
  • If the candidate has one first-author publication in a Q1 or Q2 Scimago-listed journal: No work experience required

D) For interdisciplinary Ph.D. enrollment:
Candidates must complete a 30 Credit Hour (CH) conversion course in the intended discipline. These courses will be recommended by the relevant Subject Committee and approved by the Central Departmental Research Committee (CDRC). Upon completion, the candidate will be eligible to receive a Ph.D. degree from that department.

  • Ph.D. Research Proposal
  • Academic Certificates
  • Bio-data of the Candidate
  • Bio-data of Supervisor/Co-supervisor
  • Acceptance Letter from Supervisor/Co-supervisor
  • Recommendation from CDRC
  • No Objection Letter (if employed)
  • Job Nature and Experience Letter
  • Assurance Letter of Study Leave (for full-time researcher candidates)
  • Plagiarism Check Report (as per IoST regulations)

Note:
For TU-employed candidates applying as full-time Ph.D. researchers, prior approval must be obtained from the Office of the Dean (Faculty Coordination Division). For approval, contact the Coordination Division.
Other employed applicants must submit a No Objection Letter.
